The Kirkwood Police Department is warning that someone is scamming residents. The police phone number will show up on caller ID.
The person on the line identifies himself or herself as an IRS agent and says the resident owes delinquent taxes from a previous year.
The caller then tells the resident to obtain a money order for the taxes owed and gives an address to send the money to.
Police say the IRS does not contact people by phone to request information or payments.
For help, residents can contact the Kirkwood Police Department at 314-822-5858.
